This morning (Aug. 8) we performed our Topping Out ceremony, the placing on the ridgepole of a white pine sapling. Click to read more about this multicultural custom. Next we began placing the rafters which Tim had spent the previous day cutting.

Lisa sat on the scaffolding while Tim climbed up a ladder on the outside of the house with a 2x12 rafter pushing it towards her. She'd catch it and hold it in place while he nailed the end to the plate (top of wall). We'd do 4 rafters at a time, then Tim would climb up and nail them at the ridgepole.

End of the day and about half of the rafters in place. Tim doing his "monkey climb" down the staging.
